Platy Colours

See below for images of the various captive bred variations of colour on the ever popular livebearing fish, the Platy. The majority of these are hybrids of Xiphophorus maculatus and Xiphophorus variatus.

Sunset[edit]

The Sunset has a deep red-orange tail which lightens to yellow-orange on the head.

Marigold[edit]

The Marigold has a yellow body with orange tail.

Tuxedo[edit]

The Tuxedo has irregular dark patches on the flanks, the body will be yellow to orange.

Variegated[edit]

Like the Tuxedo with a darker colour on a lighter yellow, orange or blue colour, but speckled rather than solid.

Mickey Mouse[edit]

The Mickey Mouse has a "Mickey Mouse" shaped dark pattern at the base of the tail. They are available in all colours from red to blue.

Wagtail[edit]

Wagtails have yellow to red bodies with dark fins.

Blue[edit]

The Blues move away from the more commonly seen oranges and reds with iridescent blue across the whole body.
